This one credit online lab critically examines the scientific fundamentals of fire and combustion, providing a robust, evidence-based foundation for Fire Services Management students. Through analysis of case studies and research demonstrations, students will master the core concepts that drive fire behavior. Topics covered include: the principles of physical and chemical change in combustion; the mechanisms of heat transfer; and the fluid dynamics governing the movement of fire gases. The course will systematically analyze the distinct combustion processes of gaseous, liquid, and solid fuels, address the critical life safety hazards posed by smoke and heat, and conclude with the scientific principles underpinning all fire extinguishment methods. This lab is designed to give students a clear, practical understanding of fire science as applied to the built environment.
