Catalog description

The course introduces the students to a large body of knowledge in computer organization and architecture. Coverage includes: computer design historical progress; the von-Neumann model, number systems representations and coding; Boolean algebra and minimization; combinational and sequential circuits design; assembly level instructions; conversion of high level programming constructs to assembly level; machine level instructions and addressing modes; memory hierarchy and cache mapping. Students will delve into the internal workings of modern computer systems at varying levels of abstraction and gain hands-on experience with assembly language programming.
