Catalog description

This course is an expansion upon the traditional and conceptual approaches of drawing as a medium in art-making and studio practices, focused on the implementation and progression of advanced drawing processes to build a foundation towards a studio practice rooted in critical inquiry. Dictated by the use of self-designated drawing materials and adjacent tools, this course considers how students approach assignments given to develop a conceptual language within drawing; and further expand on the foundations of their own artistic practice. Course assignments are structured through open-ended prompts and 'theory workshops,' primarily conducted in-class; with selected class sessions centered on peer-provided critique. Research-driven drawings in this course are loosely-guided and observational references are dependent upon a student's individual direction.
