Understanding and design of developmental care and learning opportunities for children with complications of prematurity and extended hospital stays. Neonatal and postnatal development as well as common conditions associated with low birth weight and prematurity are reviewed. Assessment and supports considered in contexts of hospital, family home and community care settings for young children with special health care needs who are at risk for or show developmental disabilities.
