Catalog description

In this fourth-level graduate course in American Sign Language (ASL), students continue to develop their receptive and expressive proficiency of ASL by expanding their sign vocabulary, enhancing their knowledge and application of accurate grammatical components of the language with an emphasis on higher order thinking, critical analysis, and cultural competence. It explores Conceptually Accurate Signed English (CASE) as it may be used in elementary and secondary schools by students, interpreters, and Teachers of the Deaf. The course discovers the beginnings of the English sign systems (SEE, SEE 2, LOVE), often used to educate deaf students. Students will also create a School-Related or "Public Service" Announcement in ASL.
