Catalog description

The tools and concepts for understanding the social organization of religion, and religion as a lived experience, in a given setting. Analyze religion's function within a social setting to understand one of the following phenomena: (a) the position(s) of religion within a public space; (b) the shifting boundaries of religious and non-religious activity; (c) the fluid nature of orthodoxy and heterodoxy; and (d) the use of violence as a means of religious coercion.
