Applications of Genomics in Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation

Classes will involve lectures and discussion of lecture material and assigned scientific literature. Students will read and interpret the appropriateness of genomic methods and analyses applied in peer-reviewed journals, articulate approaches to collect and analyze genomic data, including the assumptions and limitations of each approach, summarize principles underlying the genetics of natural populations, explain intra-individual, intra-population, among population, among species and community genetic/genomic approaches as it relates to conservation practices, and design a study that applies genomic approaches to inform conservation actions.
