Economic Justice

Our discussions will explore a variety of current topics relating to economic justice. The course begins with a discussion about how current income and wealth "gaps" differ from historical accounts. We will utilize an interdisciplinary lens as we explore this topic. After an introduction to a range of scholarship offering various perspectives on law and economics, students will investigate different legal issues that may impact the economic well-being of consumers and businesses. We'll utilize a variety of discussion formats (including mock legislative hearings, simulated conferences, and group discussions) to understand various current issues (e.g., barriers to economic mobility, access to credit, the impact of debt, and community economic development). While the topics will change from year to year, the discussions on various issues will circle back to the law and economic debates.
