Catalog description

Examines legal doctrine and policy as it relates to the democratic political process. Focuses on the text of the Constitution and of federal legislation that governs voting and the political process, the decisions of the United States Supreme Court interpreting the Constitution and federal statutes, and the federal regulations that impact our democracy. Topics will include: campaign finance, the Voting Rights Act, one person, one vote, racial and partisan gerrymandering, direct democracy, the regulation of political parties, and the Help America Vote Act. Develops an understanding of where the law of our democracy has been, where it is today, and where it might be headed. Grade based on exam.
