Contemporary Issues in Federal Law Enforcement

Catalog description

This course will provide a survey analysis of contemporary issues in federal criminal law, investigations, and enforcement. It will provide students an overview of federal law enforcement agency scope, resources, jurisdiction, and investigative techniques, as well as legal and institutional limits on law enforcement conduct. Special emphasis will include contemporary issues such as conducting investigations in the digital, cyber, and national security arenas. The course will provide a topical overview of selected case statutes, case law and investigative techniques related to violent crime and gangs, organized crime, white collar crime, public corruption, crimes against children, sex trafficking, civil rights, firearms offenses, controlled substances, terrorism, national security and cyber-crime.
