Equality Before the Law

This course is an intensive examination of the concept of equality in American law. The course will examine the many meanings of equality in American law; the reasons for selecting certain characteristics (such as race and gender) and domains (such as employment and housing) to equalize; the legal mechanisms used in American law to create and enforce equality; and the capacity of American institutions (such as the executive, courts, and legislatures) to announce and enforce equality norms.
