Catalog description

Survey of European and related intellectual histories from Locke and Bayle to Kant and Condorcet. Attempts to arrive at a definition of the Enlightenment through examination of both the writings of the philosophers and through secondary literature. Seeks to comprehend the Enlightenment in its social and political as well as its intellectual content.
