Literature Seminar: Diaspora, Migration, and Borderlands

Catalog description

What is culture? Beginning with this central question, we explore communities and identities in literature and critical texts, such as African American poetry, Latinx fiction, Asian American hybrid works, or the like. The readings provide a diverse range of historical and cultural narratives. Topics may include critical race theory, orientalism, diaspora studies, queer studies as well as the intersections of race, ethnicity, nationality, history, whiteness, exile, and marginalization. We examine how these language workers expand literary innovation and map the changing territories of transnational identities. Prerequisite: 3 credits of 300-level course work.
