MA Yoga Thesis

Catalog description
A course in which students research and craft a major written paper or media project on a particular Yoga Studies topic of their choice. This thesis project will be supported by a series of modules on writing, secondary scholarship in Yoga Studies, prominent theoretical frameworks in the field, and research methods. Supplementary Course Description: If the student decides to work on a MA thesis Paper, it will be completed over the course of the semester and will culminate in a critical and theoretically self-aware paper on a specific topic, totaling 30 - 40 pages in length. Online lectures, readings, and discussions related to Yoga Studies scholarship, and the disciplines therein (religious studies, intellectual history, anthropology, sociology, feminism, cultural studies etc.), will figure in each unit. If the student opts for a media project, it should achieve equivalency with a 30-40 page paper in terms of the time dedicated to research, creative effort, and editing / refining. Example of media-based projects include a video or podcast series, an online course, a service project or other outward-facing initiatives related to yoga communities and scholarship on yoga
