Foundations of Education for a Diverse Society

Catalog description

In this course, we survey theories and practices in education in the U.S. based on analyses of current practices and future projections. The course includes an introduction to the history of education; educational philosophies; effective teaching, schools, and curricula; and social, political, and economic forces that shape contemporary schooling. Coursework includes readings, lectures, dialog, simulations, guest speakers, semester-long tutoring at an educational facility, written analyses of fieldwork data, peer teaching in class, and experiential teaching and learning in an outdoor classroom. Must receive a "B" or better to be accepted into the Teacher Preparation Program. Includes practicum hours.
