Catalog description

Mindfulness-Based Counseling: Diagnosis and Interventions. Required of all third-year students, this course provides students with an in-depth experience of mindfulness applications in counseling. Students are required to offer and apply mindfulness with clients, as part of their internship placement, while accessing appropriate entry points into transpersonal and mindfulness practices. This course is designed to provide a supportive and instructional forum for students' experience of mindfulness applications while observing ethical, therapeutic, and practical challenges that are part of the process. The main focus of this course is to develop the counselor tool box by adopting mindfulness techniques, such as those found in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy( CBT) and Dialectical Based Therapy (DBT). Students will be invited to explore nature-based learning, and counselor self-care experientials that involve contemplative awareness, in which they can observe their own practice, and transform these practice(s)into an offering for their clients. Prerequisite: CNST671E.
