Pipe Welding

Catalog description
This course is designed for the advanced welders who want to improve their pipe welding skills or are preparing for pipe welding certification to the AWS D1.1 welding code standard. Lab projects for this course are designed to align with relevant sections of AWS SENSE Levels I. Topics covered will include: safety practices, tack welds, positioning and pipe welding using methods most frequently covered will include: safety practices, tack welds, positioning and pipe welding using methods most frequently found in industrial processes, and fieldwork. All common welding positions will be covered. Students are required to perform root pass, filler pass, and cover pass on each specimen. Welding processes which will be covered are Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). Destructive and visual testing will be part of the coursework.
