ENG 297GN
Graphic Novel
Muskegon Community College · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
This course studies the graphic novel, a more extended literary form of the comic book. As a hybrid genre (art and literature), many literary scholars avoid including graphic novels in the academic conversation because it does not fit neatly into the already established genres. This course will examine graphic works by situating each within its historical, social and cultural context, working to gain a deeper understanding of the genre and its place within literature, as a whole, through discussion and analysis.
