Catalog description
This course is a study of the chemical processes and procedures used to produce a black oxide finish on firearms utilizing the hot caustic immersion and rust bluing processes. Metal preparation, bluing room design, equipment, chemicals, and safety factors will be covered. Polishing techniques and metal preparation utilizing primarily hand techniques will be emphasized. Students will develop skills by applying these processes to test pieces, tools, and project firearms.
