Catalog description

This course offers an in-depth exploration of how we understand and value the natural world, focusing on the ethical significance of persons, animals, plants, microorganisms, and ecosystems. We will consider how historical, religious, and cultural perspectives have shaped our relationship with nature. Additionally, the connections between science, technology, economics, public policy, and moral principles will be examined. The course encourages students to develop and defend their own ethical views, respond to opposing arguments, and reflect on the philosophical underpinnings of their beliefs. Prerequisites: ENG 101 (or corequisite).
