Catalog description

This course focuses on the application of the nursing process to the care of clients who are experiencing mental health problems. Students are introduced to concepts of psychiatric mental health nursing, including principles of pathophysiology, psychopharmacology, and therapeutic communication. Clinical experiences allow students to apply these concepts in the care of clients with varying mental health problems. Emphasis is placed on the applicability of psychiatric nursing principles to the care of clients regardless of the setting or medical diagnosis. This course requires a test grade average of 77% or higher as well as an overall course grade of 77% or higher in order to progress in the program. Corequisites: ENG 102 , NUR 220 (NU majors only), SOC 103 . Fall. Prerequisites: BIO 204 , BIO 205 ; NUR 114 ; PSY 110 .
