Catalog description

This is a course for total beginners with no prior knowledge of Spanish, and for those who did not learn Spanish as a home language. Students are introduced to the sounds of the language, basic vocabulary, and grammar. The goal is to start building oral and written communicative skills in Spanish. It promotes awareness of the diversity of the Spanish language and cultures. Not open to native or heritage speakers of Spanish (see appropriate upper-level courses). Not open to native or heritage speakers of Spanish. Students who learned Spanish as a home language should enroll directly in SPN 130 (Spanish for Heritage Speakers) or in appropriate 200-level courses.
