Catalog description

Common neurological diagnoses will be presented and students will discuss and demonstrate knowledge of the principles, progression and management of diagnoses throughout the various stages of recovery. This course includes learning the anatomy and functions of the central and peripheral nervous systems, current functional mobility techniques, and activities of daily living (ADLs), as well as, implementation of treatment interventions for common neurological disorders. Students will be taught intervention techniques for persons with diagnosis of stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, neurodegenerative disorders, and peripheral nerve disorders. Specific therapeutic treatment techniques include designing and implementing treatment plans and providing education for patients and caregivers are also taught. Additionally, documentation of the various assessment techniques, interventions and functional activities will also be incorporated into this course. Lecture two hours per week, laboratory three hours per week.
