Leadership and Ethics in Public Safety

Catalog description

An overview of essential traits and skills that contribute to effective leadership and ethical behavior within the context of Public Safety. Students will identify leadership strategies that promote a positive work environment, encourage ethical conduct, and build trust among stakeholders. Students will assess various problem-solving and decision-making models and examine the impact of effective leadership and influence in Public Safety. A deeper understanding of self as it relates to leadership philosophies, knowledge, skills, and abilities for the exercise of effective and ethical leadership will be examined. Each student will study and explore their core values, ethics, decision making, and begin to develop a personal philosophy of leadership, gain an understanding of communication processes, empowerment, and leading in an ever-changing and diverse environment. The student will explore and how a person exercising leadership moves a Public Safety Organization from vision to action. 54.00 hours lecture. (Letter grade only)
