Race, Ethnicity, and Politics in America

Catalog description

An examination of United States and California institutions of social, political and economic power from the history and experiences of minoritized populations such as African Americans, Latinas/os, Native Americans, Women, Asian Americans, and Immigrants. Students will analyze the U.S. and California Constitutions as well the legislative, executive and judicial branches of governance with regard to citizenship, pluralism, and civil rights and liberties. Other emphases will be on diverse forms of political participation and how it influences U.S. institutions at the local, state and federal levels in movements towards achieving social justice. 54.00 hours lecture.
