An introduction to radiation safety in the dental office that is designed to meet the requirements for a California Dental Board-approved Radiation Safety Course and includes radiation physics and biology, radiation protection and safety, recognition of normal anatomical landmarks, and abnormal conditions of the oral cavity as they relate to dental radiographs. Also included are radiograph exposure and processing techniques, mounting radiographs, anatomical landmarks of the oral cavity, intraoral techniques, and dental radiograph armamentaria. Students will also learn interproximal and intraoral examination including, principles of exposure, identification and correction of faulty radiographs, supplemental techniques such as digital radiography, infection control in dental radiographic procedures, and radiographic record management. 12.00 hours lecture and 24.00 hours laboratory.
