Catalog description

This course provides an in-depth experience of thinking as a creative writer and a teacher of writing. Students will produce advanced work in writing poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. They will study the techniques of poetry--the creation and use of meter, rhyme, line, stanza, tone and figurative language; fiction--development of action, character, and narrative voice; and creative nonfiction-detail, description, distinctive voice, and intimate point of view. In addition, students will create writing prompts that could be used in an undergraduate creative writing class. This course emphasizes independent research, assignment planning, and evaluation of student drafts. Students in this course will take on a mentor role in the undergraduate creative writing classroom.
