Catalog description

This course surveys the trends, nature, patterns, and causes of violence in the United States of America. Blending criminological, sociological, and psychological perspectives on violent behavior, the course reviews various types of violence, including serial and mass murder, youth and school violence, violence among intimates and family members, as well as the role of firearms. The effectiveness of various criminal justice responses is also examined, including intervention strategies, gun control, incarceration, and capital punishment. Level: Undergraduate
