Psychology of Gender

Catalog description

This course takes an intersectional and evidence-based approach to understand how gender shapes our lives and well-being. We will cover major theoretical approaches and empirical findings of the psychology of gender. Using research findings, we will analyze and critique gender roles, gender identity, and gender socialization. The psychological, cultural, and health implications of gender will be emphasized along with an examination of potential sources of gender development (biological, social, etc.). Sample topics include mental health, gender diversity, sexuality, body image and disordered eating, violence, parenthood, and the workplace.
