Offered autumn semester. This course examines canonical “classical” political thinkers from Plato to Machiavelli. Graduate students will consider a fundamental question: what is the purpose of political inquiry? A fundamental question precisely because what people take to be the purpose of political theory determines what they study, who they study, and how they study it. Co-convenes with PSCI 457 . Level: Graduate
