Climate Policy

Offered autumn, odd years. This course explores the evolving laws, policies, and judicial decisions that influence levels of carbon dioxide emissions and other climate altering activities occurring in the United States and globally. This course includes a thorough overview of global climate policy including the structure of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and policies resulting from the various Conference of Parties (COP) meetings, including the Paris Agreements. From this starting point, the course then explores similar issues at the nation state and sub-national scale, including an investigation of how various proactive emissions regulations and reactive mitigation and adaptation activities are treated in both statutory and administrative legal regimes.
