Catalog description

Offered autumn and spring. Strongly recommended for (i) international students admitted with intermediate or advanced English proficiency status as defined in the catalog, (ii) international students who are new to academic English in North America, and/or (iii) domestic students who use English as Second Language. May not be taken at the same time EASL 251 or COMX 111, or after COMX 111. Concentration on improving academic listening and speaking and study skills required for success in an American academic setting. Includes refining pronunciation, participating in informal and structured debates, leading class discussions, extemporaneous speaking, and preparing formal presentations with appropriate research and technological support. Students will learn to navigate American academic culture and its communicative expectations, engaging in social interactions on different topics and in different academic settings.
