Catalog description

Offered autumn and spring. Strongly recommended for (i) international students admitted with intermediate or advanced English proficiency status as defined in the catalog, (ii) international students who are new to academic English in North America, and/or (iii) domestic students who use English as Second Language. May not be taken at the same time as or after EASL 450 or WRIT 101 . Concentration on reading and writing and study skills required for success in an American academic setting. Students will read academic texts and build proficiency in identifying and comprehending main ideas, supporting details, and academic vocabulary. Writing focus includes paragraph and essay structure (process & comparison patterns), basic research protocol, grammatical editing and citation. The course also introduces students to American academic culture and classroom expectations.
