Offered spring. Prereq., CSCI 232 . Operating system design principles. Processes, threads, synchronization, deadlock, memory management, file management and file systems, protection, and security, comparison of commonly used existing operating systems, writing programs that make use of operating system services. It is recommended, but not required, that the student also attend Programming Languages (in order to be prepared to write C programs) and Architecture (in order to understand interactions between the operating system and processor hardware) prior to attending this course.
