Catalog description

This course examines painting produced in France and its “cultural satellites” Britain, Spain, and the German States throughout the 1800s, with a specific concern for the dialectic between art making and the modern world. It will explore all the major stylistic trends - Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Realism, and Impressionism - and artists who shaped public consciousness of the momentous changes around them
