This lecture course examines the defining moments in the development of European and American art of the modern era, from the 1730s through to 1940. The course includes Fauvism and Expressionism, Cubism, Futurism, the School of Paris, Dada and Surrealism, the Russian avant-garde, modernist trends in America. Painting, sculpture, photography, and the functional arts are discussed
