Catalog description
This course encourages students to study education as a social institution using a sociological lens. The course introduces students to the study of education as a social institution, particularly examining how social inequalities such as race, class, gender, and sexuality shape educational experiences of youth today. Students will also examine the cultural, social, economic, and political structures that shape education as a social institution. The course will focus on education in the United States with an emphasis on racism and anti-racism, along with other forms of oppression.
