Ethics, Justice and American Prisons

Catalog description

Explores the rise of mass incarceration in the United States, with a critical look at the ethical, socio-cultural, political and economic factors that shape the American prison system today. The course is also the gateway course to The Monmouth University Academic Exchange Program, also referred to as MU-AEP, a collaborative effort between Monmouth University and the New Jersey Department of Corrections. This program, of which this course is a requirement, is offered by Monmouth University to help to facilitate a transformative exchange of ideas and perspectives between incarcerated students and non-incarcerated students and non-incarcerated students inside the New Jersey state prison.
