Catalog description

Introduces students to the critical political issues and policy challenges in South America. Hemisphere integration continues to accelerate, and political and economic developments in South America increasingly impact the United States. Immigration, trade, drugs, and the environment require hemisphere collaboration among a diverse set of peoples and governments. The course surveys contemporary politics and economics, as well as the basic regional history in a way that invites comparison and the development of regional (Southern Cone, Andean Region) and hemispheric perspectives on the challenges linked to hemispheric integration.
