Catalog description
Particular countries and the global community at large have a stake in democracy's future. This course surveys the vast literature on the topic of democratic transitions in order to build an intellectual tool set that is appropriate for analyzing the current status of democracy around the world. At the end of this course, students develop an understanding of the root causes (political, economic, and cultural) that encourage and undermine democracy over a range of country case studies.
