This course provides an interdisciplinary examination of how social processes and the built environment interact to shape community life. Students explore the development and structure of different types of communities and analyze how place influences social issues such as crime, housing, health, poverty, and public policy responses. The course draws on perspectives from sociology, geography, public health, criminal justice, and related fields to investigate how spatial context affects social outcomes and our communities.
