Catalog description

This experiential education service learning course is designed to introduce students to best practices for planning and facilitating school-based programing to provide nutrition education and promote physical activity in accordance with theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence associated with movement competencies, physical activity engagement, and social-emotional learning. Lecture sessions will highlight pedagogical content knowledge related to the facilitation of standards-based, developmentally appropriate physical activity opportunities and nutrition education for children. Service learning sessions will provide opportunities for students to apply content via planning and facilitating physical activity and nutrition education in a comprehensive school physical activity program (CSPAP).
