Statistics with Applications to Systemic Inequalities and Anti-Racism

Catalog description

This course provides a broad introduction to statistics within the context of studying systemic inequalities and anti-racism in the United States. It is built around the process of performing a statistical analysis: posing the question, collecting the data, describing the data, analyzing and modeling the data, and drawing inferences from the data regarding the original question. Specific topics covered include analysis and visualization of data, probability, random variables, normal distribution, sampling theory, confidence intervals, and statistical inference. Each week will be focused on statistics but from the point of view of looking at social inequalities, highlighting both the power and limitations of statistical tools, and ultimately seeking out ways to make an impact on battling racism and other social justice issues.
