Afro-Hispanic Literature

Catalog description

This course examines the development of Afro-Hispanic Literature and visual documentation from the Colonial period to the present. We will study the materials according to their historical and political context and examine the literary forms, genres, and techniques by spanning a range of analyses of textual criticism, political rhetoric, poetry, music, fiction, and non-fiction. This course engages students interested in learning more about Afro-Hispanic cultures as expressed through the lens of its literature, documentaries, and the visual arts. Students will appreciate artistic creations by Afro-Hispanic authors and exercise their analytical and creative abilities. The course is taught in Spanish, and fulfills the FS-305 or FS-307 requirement for Spanish minors and majors.
