Directing for Film and the Screen

Catalog description

This course focuses on the principles of directing for filmmaking and is a primer on the history, techniques, and professional standards of directing for the screen. By the end of the course each student will understand the expectations of a working director while also develop their own unique approach to this art and craft. Class will be comprised of overviews, in-class exercises, critiques, and assignments. The creation of portfolio level work is stressed throughout the course. Verbal and visual presentation skills necessary to communicate with collaborators are emphasized. Critiques focus on command of the craftsmanship of a director, unique solutions and approaches, as well as demonstration of critical analysis of directing for film.
