Community Engagement and Policing

Catalog description

This course examines the theory and practice of community engagement and policing in a democratic society. Emphasis is placed on the historical development of policing, police-community relations, conflict management, humanistic policing, and contemporary strategies designed to foster trust, legitimacy, and cooperation between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Students will critically analyze community policing models, youth and school-based initiatives, implicit bias, cultural competency, and collaborative problem-solving approaches used by criminal justice organizations.
