Catalog description

This course focuses on the human compulsion to produce and consume stories through a study of literary works. Students will learn the skills of close reading and critical analysis of a wide variety of narrative texts from various historical periods, genres, and cultures. We will discuss elements of narrative, including plot, characters, point of view, setting, theme, conflict, and style. Understanding how these features work together will assist students in analyzing narratives and deriving meaning from literary works.
