Religion, Democracy and Justice

Catalog description

This course investigates the religious and philosophical underpinnings of the nature of a democratic society. The profound influences of Western thought such as the Enlightenment and religious reform provide a foundation for analyzing contemporary approaches to American concepts of justice in a world of constant change. Issues that attempt to undermine democracy, such terrorism, crime and corruption, will be explored. Key democratic principles such as due process, equal protection under the law, freedom of the press and checks and balances are examined. Core courses are not open to Freshmen or Sophomores, except for associate degree candidates.
