Catalog description
This is an introductory course that focuses on the development of communicative competency in modern spoken and written Mandarin. It affords students the opportunity to practice speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in Mandarin, as well as to gain knowledge and understanding of the culture. Tones, standard accents and pronunciation are stressed at the early stage. Particular emphasis is placed on the systematic mastery of vocabulary and conversational skills. CHI 1010 is intended for students with little or no previous experience in the language. NOTE: Open to first and second year students only, or to students enrolled at Molloy prior to Fall 2019.
