Advanced Human Anatomy

Catalog description

(formerly offered as BIO 3480 for 3 credits) This advanced course is designed for undergraduates who are pre-med or pre-health. In lecture, students will learn the theory behind contemporary imaging techniques, as well as the basics of reading various images in lab. Students will learn to identify normal and abnormal histology. Systems biology is challenged as an artificial construct, as students learn regional anatomy of major joints. An in-depth study of the shoulder, knee, and hip joint will culminate in a lab workshop where students will read mock patient reports and diagnose cases as a team. Students will study the interdependence of the cardiovascular, respiratory, lymphatic and urinary system, and learn how to conduct a clinical examination of the thyroid, chest, and abdomen. Laboratory dissections will enable students to visualize material learned in lecture. Three lecture hours, two laboratory hours per week.
